A project for the North area of Porto Marghera: waterfront and urban metropolitan district
The project concerns the regeneration of the north area of Porto Marghera, the historical industrial zone of Venice that nowadays is far from being fully exploited. This area is considered strategic not only for the future development of the city of Venice itself, but even for the whole metropolitan area next to it. We started our work identifying the buildings that were particularly strategic because of their architectural importance and their age, in order to create a hierarchy of elements and delete the buildings that are not significant in the new designed area. We paid attention to preserve a stratification of the ages, to maintain the memory of the area and the "genius loci". On this new clean scenery we designed a new urban district for Venice, adopting the principle of the mixité functionelle, based on two different typology of buildings: the tower and the building in line. We achieve to obtain an organic masterplan where the historical buildings become the urban attractors and the new constructions become technological scenes made of glass and iron.
